$7,100 OTF Grant Makes Hybrid Meetings Possible

Ottawa, ON – On March 21st 2023, the Valley Woodturners held its first formal hybrid meeting, which was partly made possible thanks to a $7,100 Resilient Communities Fund Grant it received from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant was used to purchase the necessary equipment and services to hold hybrid meetings and demonstrations.
“This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to enable remote online participation in club meetings facilitates a post-Covid return to normal at the pace and comfort level of each member, while providing a solid foundation for expanding accessibility and geographic reach to woodturning hobbyists and professionals throughout the Ottawa Valley and beyond,” said Lisa MacLeod, MPP for Nepean .
The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said Murray Cameron, President of the Valley Woodturners. “It is enabling us to rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19 by procuring audio-visual equipment to adapt club activities to better connect members and community now, as we continue to emerge from the pandemic, and to extend membership throughout the region to those who would otherwise not be able to participate.
Valley Woodturners is a volunteer-run not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a forum where woodturners of all skill levels can share methods, techniques and ideas; and encouraging interest in woodturning through provision of live demonstrations and hands on training. Please visit the website at: www.valleywoodturners.com.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grantmaking in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities. Last year, OTF invested nearly $209M into 2,042 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Visit otf.ca to learn more.

Ever wondered how a 3D printer and woodturning can work together? Tom Burn will have samples of some nifty little tools, at the next club meeting, available for pre-order. Whether it's an angle gauge or a tenon/mortise gauge, you just never know what he'll come up with next.
