Valley Woodturners Receives Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant
October 18, 2022
Valley Woodturners Inc. is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) grant under OTF’s Resilient Communities Fund. This $7,100 grant is enabling us to rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19 by procuring audio-visual equipment and services to adapt club activities with hybrid in-person / online meetings and demonstrations to better connect members and community, both during and after the pandemic.

Ever wondered how a 3D printer and woodturning can work together? Tom Burn will have samples of some nifty little tools, at the next club meeting, available for pre-order. Whether it's an angle gauge or a tenon/mortise gauge, you just never know what he'll come up with next.

results of the covid-19 challenge!
After watching the April global concert organized by Lady Gaga in recognition of the front line workers, Malcolm Zander thought that the Club members talent and passion could be put to work to do the same, From his idea stemmed what we referred to as our Covid19 challenge to turn small objects that would be offered to local front line workers.
Several members met the challenge and the club delivered 144 beautiful pieces to our local grocery chain Farm Boy to distribute to their front line workers. In addition to putting their heart into it, to ensure the sterility of the finished products, members sanitized and placed their donation into a clear plastic bag.
Bravo Valley Woodturners for your generous gesture!

The spring wood turning course has been postponed until further notice, likely until the fall of 2020.
CALCULATOR FOR SHOP AIR CIRCULATION/FILTRATION
There is a FREE app called Sycorp Calc that will help you figure out what kind of CFM your equipment needs to be to clear the room's air however many times a minute. Most turner shops try to aim for 6 times a minute.
For example a shop measuring 14' x 20' x 8' with a 6 times per minute air exchange would require a CFM of 572 CFM (from the calculator). You should therefore be looking for an air circulation unit with a minimum of 600 CFM.
The app is FREE so no reason to look the other way. Your lungs will thank you.
